Michael has broad regional and international experience with a concentration on mergers and acquisitions, and international contracts, particularly in relation to energy, oil and gas and mining, project finance, joint ventures, and commercial distribution and license agreements.
In 2005 he co-founded our Argentine affiliate, which has grown swiftly to 40 counsel, after more than 17 years at one of the largest Argentine law firms. The practice encompasses all major aspects of investment in Argentina as well as cross-border investments throughout the region including restructuring, government tenders, divestment and labor law.
Michael earned his law degree from Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1990 and in 1992 he was assigned to practice in New York, where he earned a Master in Law Degree from New York University School of Law in 1993. He subsequently worked in the Cross-Border Finance Group of Rogers & Wells (currently Clifford Chance) on various financing transactions and company acquisitions throughout Latin America. In 1994 he was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York. In 1996 he completed a graduate program in Oil & Gas Law at Universidad de Buenos Aires.
He is currently active in the Energy and Gas Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of Argentina. He is a member of the International Bar Association (Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law), the Energy Bar Association, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, and the Argentine Association of Energy and Natural Resources Law (Asociación Argentina del Derecho de la Energía y de los Recursos Minerales). He is Deputy Chairman of The English-Speaking Union of Argentina.
He co-authored the Argentina chapters of Public Procurement, published by Getting the Deal Through (2005) and of International Product Liability Law, published by Aspatore Books, Boston (2003). He wrote the Argentina chapters of Latin American Capital Markets, published by Juris Publishing, New York (1999), and of Reform and Renewal: Current Regulatory Development in Latin American Capital Markets, published by The Association of the Bar of the City of New York (1996).
He has lectured in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Peru, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Venezuela.
